EPOS Adapt 260 Offers fantastic audio in an ultra-compact package

With Hybrid working becoming the new normal, where, and how we work needs to be smarter and more adaptive than ever before. This style of working demands our technology to be more flexible than ever to meet this new world.

EPOS’s Adapt range are business focused headsets that aim to meet the challenges of the hybrid workspace by being versatile without compromising the quality needed by professionals.

The EPOS Adapt 260, is a very compact, lightweight device that features a minimal yet good looking design.

With a stylish all-black look it’s inconspicuous and tasteful with a tiny EPOS Sennheiser on the right and a small logo left this headset is subtle, stylish, and sensible.

The design is very light and thin, making it easy to carry

With a width of 200mm, a height of 165mm and a depth of 58mm it’s smaller and thinner than most headsets meaning it’s less distracting and noticeable when on video meetings.

It’s also incredibly light weighing only 121 grams so it’s comfortable to wear all day and very portable. It’s also easy to bring with you everywhere, you can even wear it while travelling on your commute.

The trade-off for this weight is that the headset is its plastic build, but it was surprisingly a lot tougher than it looks and will stand up to normal pressure and wear.

A discreet and thin microphone boom arm tucks in nicely under the headband, making this easier to flatten and pack away as well as make the mic less noticeable and obstructive when not in use.

The minimal design combined with the leatherette material make them incredibly comfortable

Both left and right earcups support 90-degree rotation which helps get a more precision fit as well as flatten the 260s profile.

It also makes it easy to keep one ear open, if you need to pay attention to your environment, which is especially useful working from home with kids or if you need to keep one ear open in the office.

The 260 has a simple, sleek design for a pair of over-ear headphones, and feels comfortable even when worn for an extended period and thankfully didn’t get too hot or sweaty either.

The soft, memory foam ear cups sit nicely on the ear without putting too much pressure or being uncomfortable and you can adjust each cup slightly if you’re not blessed with perfectly symmetrical ears.

The Noise-cancelling microphone does a great job of isolating your voice

The headband is slightly flexible and is covered in soft leather so doesn’t put too much pressure on your ears or your head.

Simple to connect via Bluetooth 5.0 the Adapt 260 also comes with a wireless dongle for devices without Bluetooth built-in.

My one real gripe here is that there is no 3.5mm jack anywhere on the device unlike the Adapt 660.

The Adapt 260 is very easy to connect and use

The Adapt 260 is a wireless device only. This is a shame as a cabled option also would have made this headset even more versatile and be handy if like me you don’t always remember to charge your devices. It’s also compatible with loads of devices including PC, Mac tablet, mobile and softphone programs.

If you like to move around the office while working, the 260 has a range of around 25 meters but you usually need to remain in the visual range of the connected device.

Blissfully simple to use the headset only has three buttons on the right side. The Teams button, the volume up and down slider and the mute/On and Off button.

Multiple button presses allow you to play content or accept or rejects calls, this modest layout helps you answer and make calls easily without looking.

The Adapt 260 can go the distance thanks to its 600mAh lithium-ion battery that offers an impressive 27 hours of life, or around 23 hours with talking, but it takes around 2 hours to fully charge.

It can also be paired with multiple devices at the same time

The small LED located between the mute and USB-C charging port indicates how much battery life is remaining in the unit.

One solid white light means 100%, blue blinking light means over 61%, a blinking purple light means over 21% and a red blinking light means less than 21%, making it very quick and easy to see immediately how much power you have remaining.

Despite the 260s focus on meetings and calls as well as its relatively small speakers the audio quality it’s way above average and what you’d expect from EPOS.

Offering superb clarity, as well as a clean natural sound as well as rich and warm mid-tones, decent bass for their size making these great for music, films and podcasts as not just for work.

The battery life can last up to an amazing 27 hours

The microphone’s recording quality is great providing strong clear audio. The microphone’s noise-cancelling does a brilliant job of filtering out the majority of unwanted noise in the background, giving remarkably accurate, clear and crisp audio.

However, they can be a little over-sensitive and pick up the occasional loud unwanted noises especially in a busy coffee shop but it was fine in an office, at home or in most outdoor spaces.

The 260 has a dedicated Microsoft Teams button to get you into your meetings straight away. It is also optimised for all unified communications, this includes Zoom, Skype, Google Hangouts etc.

You can have up to two devices connected to the headset at the same time and switch simultaneously between the two easily. I was connected to my work computer as well as my mobile phone so I wouldn’t miss meetings or phone calls while I was listening to music.

It is also worth noting that the Adapt 260 comes with a 2-year warranty which can add some peace of mind.

While the headset sadly does not come with any active noise cancelling for listening but the ear cups do offer some weak passive noise cancellation.

For the price, the Adapt 260 offers fantastic value for money and is a cut above other entry-level headsets.

Verdict

The EPOS Sennheiser Adapt 260 is a solid and dependable headset and much more than just a conferencing tool.

Its discreet, light frame coupled with its wireless functionality, fantastic battery life helps unshackle you from your desk to really allows you to work anywhere.

The 260s great comfort, above-average audio quality, simple controls and noise isolating help this make headset the perfect companion that you’d have no reason not to carry with you everywhere.
